A Journey into the Wild: Manikgad Camp for Sophia College – Devi Waingankar

The serene and untouched beauty of nature has always had a mesmerizing effect on people, drawing them closer to its wonders. On the weekend of 27th and 28th January 2018, a group of Sophia College students embarked on an unforgettable journey into the wilderness of Manikgad, a lesser-known gem nestled in the heart of nature. This nature camp promised two days filled with adventure, learning, and an opportunity to reconnect with the natural world.

Manikgad, situated in the Sahyadri mountain range in India, is known for its rich biodiversity and breathtaking landscapes. Historically, it was built to oversee the trade route from Maval (Pune) to coastal ports.

The Nature Camp was dedicated to exploration and education. The participants learned about the importance of conservation, sustainable living, and the impact of human activities on the environment. Interactive workshops on wildlife conservation and plant identification left us with a deeper appreciation for our natural surroundings.

The Nature Camp at Manikgad, held from 27th to 28th January 2018, was more than just a weekend getaway; it was a transformative experience. Participants left with a newfound appreciation for nature, a deeper understanding of our impact on the environment, and a commitment to making positive changes in their lives.

The camp served as a reminder that we are all stewards of the Earth, responsible for its well-being. It encouraged us to tread lightly on this planet, to respect its ecosystems, and to ensure that future generations can enjoy the same natural wonders we had the privilege of experiencing during those two remarkable days.

In a world that often seems disconnected from the natural world, the Manikgad Nature Camp provided a much-needed opportunity to reconnect, learn, and reflect on our relationship with the environment. It was a journey into the wild that left an indelible mark on the hearts and minds of all who attended, inspiring us to be better guardians of our planet.
