Beyond the blooms

There are very few experiences in life that you genuinely cannot replicate. This is one of them. For just six to eight weeks every monsoon, a remote plateau in the Western Ghats transforms into something that researchers, photographers, and nature lovers travel thousands of kilometres to witness, a living, breathing carpet of wildflowers so rare, so dense, and so fleeting that missing it means waiting an entire year to try again. Kaas Plateau is a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site, and when it blooms, there is nothing else like it on the planet. But this is not just about flowers. With Naturalist Explorers, the journey to Kaas is as much a part of the experience as the destination itself. Travel in a comfortable AC vehicle from Mumbai as the city gives way to winding Sahyadri ghats, misty valleys, and landscapes that feel like they belong in another world entirely.

Chase a waterfall, explore the historic Chalke Wadi mills, and if you're lucky, sit down to a simple plate of local pithla bhakri that tastes better than anything you've had in a long time. Our expert naturalists are with you every step of the way, on the plateau and off it, helping you see, understand, and fall in love with a part of Maharashtra most people never get to experience.

A comfortable hotel stay, all meals, and two days of unhurried exploration in one of India's most beautiful landscapes, all taken care of, so you don't have to think about a thing. This is not just a trip. It is two days away from everything ordinary, in one of the most extraordinary places in India, during the one time of year when it is at its absolute best. Spots are strictly limited to protect the ecosystem and the experience.Join us, some things are only possible once a year.

Frequently Asked Questions

Transport

What kind of vehicle will we be travelling in?

We travel in a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle throughout the trip — to and from Mumbai and for all sightseeing on the way.

Where is the departure point in Mumbai?

Our vehicle starts from the Western suburbs of Mumbai and picks up guests at convenient points along the route towards Satara. Some of our most commonly used pickup points include Oberoi Mall, the turning of santacruz - Kurla- Chembur Link Road, and Bombay Riders Chedda nagar, among others. Your specific pickup point and time will be confirmed with you closer to the departure date.

What time do we depart and return?

We depart at 06:00 AM on Day 1 and aim to return to Mumbai by approximately 07:00 PM on Day 2. Please note that return timings are approximate and may vary depending on traffic and road conditions. We recommend keeping your Day 2 evening free and flexible.

Is the vehicle filled to full capacity?

No — we never fill our vehicle to full capacity. We believe travel should be comfortable and relaxed, not cramped. Every guest has adequate space to sit back, stretch, and enjoy the journey through the Sahyadris.

Accomodation

What is the hotel like?

We stay in a clean, comfortable hotel rated 4 stars on Google, centrally located in Satara city. Rooms are on a double sharing basis. While this is not a luxury resort, it is the perfect base for two days in the Western Ghats.

Are meals included at the hotel?

Yes — all veg meals across both days are included. Day 1 includes lunch, high tea, and dinner. Day 2 includes breakfast and lunch. Where available, you may also get to enjoy a simple and delicious plate of local pithla bhakri!

Is there Wi-Fi at the hotel?

Basic Wi-Fi may be available at the hotel. However, we encourage you to use this trip as an opportunity to disconnect from screens and be fully present in one of India's most beautiful landscapes. Network is not available at the sightseeing spots.

Kaas Plateau

When is the best time to visit Kaas Plateau?

Kaas Plateau is in bloom from August to early October. The window can be unpredictable, we carefully plan our trips to coincide with peak bloom, but nature sets its own schedule. Whatever stage the bloom is at, our naturalists will ensure you get the most out of every moment on the plateau.

How long do we spend on the plateau?

We spend approximately 3 to 4 hours exploring the plateau on Day 2.

Are there any rules to follow on the plateau?

Yes — Kaas Plateau is an extremely sensitive ecosystem. Visitors are strictly required to stay on designated paths, not pluck or damage any plants, and avoid littering of any kind. Our naturalists will brief you on all guidelines before you step onto the plateau.

How difficult is the trail on the plateau?

The trail on Kaas Plateau is easy to moderate. The terrain is relatively flat but can be uneven and slippery during the monsoon. The pace is kept gentle and unhurried throughout.
