Nature Educator
Specialty:
Birds · Butterflies · Urban Nature

Gauri Joshi knew what she wanted to do with her life at a remarkably young age. Seeing a tigress up close at Tadoba as a child was the moment it clicked — that she wanted to work for the environment. That early spark has grown into a career built around the birds and butterflies she loves.

A Botany postgraduate, Gauri has been part of the Sanjay Gandhi National Park bird surveys and works across Mumbai’s wetlands and urban green spaces, leading urban birding walks, garden trails and college excursions. Her field kit is classic birder: a trusted Nikon camera, a pair of binoculars, and her dearest bird guide. One of her favourite facts to share is that flamingos get their pink colour from the food they eat.

How Gauri Joshi Inspires Urban Conservation

As a nature educator, Gauri’s goal isn’t just to hand people information — it’s to create love for the wildlife around us, whether plants or animals. Her spirit animal is a cat: minds her own business, sets boundaries, but can yap a lot once you get to know her. And her reasoning is beautifully simple: because when there’s love, we tend to protect it.

“When there’s love, we tend to protect it.”
